How tall should the cart be for an averaged height person?

Inquiry:

Is the Power Flamer with IEI a newer model to the Power Flamer with EI?  I assume there is a benefit for the extra $60? From your videos, it looks like the burner configuration has changed?
Also, If I build a wide metal cart with a properly sized hole in the middle to hold the wok, how tall should the cart be for an averaged height person?   Thanks in advance

Outdoorstirfry:

IEI is a newer addition to our product list.   It comes out because of one of our strongest patents.   Sometimes people like indoor gas range single knob approach.  For further difference between EI and IEI, please read https://outdoorstirfry.com/?s=difference+IEI+and+EI.

We would recommend table height around 2.5’.

Weight Limit?

Inquiry:

Hi,  Is there a weight load limit or suggestion for the Powerflamer 160 ? Can I put a full Presto / pressure canner on your oven?   Thank you

Outdoorstirfry:

If you use our short leg stove, there is no weight limit.  We limit to 35lbs with long leg version.  In case you have a long leg stove, the long legs can always be detached off to result as a short leg version.

Some Questions for PowerFlamer Propane Stoves.

Inquiry:

Hi – I had a few questions: on the IEI it says it cannot be reliably lighted so we should have a long igniter.
1, is it hard to ignite the non-IEI version or can we just have the non-IEI and long igniter?
2. what is the benefit of the IEI?
3. is the bottle just a small version of the tank or some other differences?
4. how much does the tank weigh, and how much does the bottle weigh?
5. do you sell the tanks and bottles or where can I buy them?

Outdoorstirfry:

  1.  Same ignition problem exists for the regular electronic version (EI).  For any electronic ignition, it is usual to strike a few times before successful.
  2. Please read https://outdoorstirfry.com/?s=difference+IEI+and+EI.
  3. Please read https://outdoorstirfry.com/?s=tank+and+bottle+difference.
  4. When full, the propane in a tank may weigh between 15~20lbs,  it weighs about 1lb in a bottle.
  5. We only sell stoves that work with tank/bottle.   We don’t sell tank or bottle.  You can get tank and bottle from any hardware store.

Flame questions on PowerFlamer manual stove

Inquiry:

Hi. Couple of questions:

1a) For manual ignition, I light the pilot flame, not the main flame?
1b) For manual ignition, pilot flame can remain on for entire cooking session?

2a) Is long handle flame adjustment available on propane 160 cooker?
2b) Can the flame adjust to a small/medium flame for garlic/ginger?

Outdoorstirfry:

1a) it is easier to light the main burner first then light the pilot.

1b) yes

2a) 2b) the burner flame is fully adjustable by the left valve front of the burner pipe, 0 flame to high flame.

How long does a 20lb propane tank last?

Inquiry:

I also had a question regarding the burner itself but generally how long does a 20lb tank of propane last while using the burner continuously?

Outdoorstirfry:

We are user of the stove ourselves for last 20 years.   A 20lb propane tank usually lasts 3~4 months.   My wife cooks 1~2 dishes a day on the stove.   We have 2 tanks, a full tank sitting ready to swap in case the 1st one runs out in the middle of cooking.

Is it possible to put a grill rack on  top of PowerFlamer stove so that flat bottom pans less then 13 inches can be used?

Inquiry:

Is it possible to put a grill rack on  top so that flat bottom pans less then 13 inches can be used?

Outdoorstirfry:

Yes, a grill rack can sit on top of the stove.   The stove surface is non-symmetrical.  You will need to orient the rack to find a stable position.  When you cook, flame will come around your pot, everything including the rack will be hot.  Just be cautious.

Do you know how long after cooking it takes to cool off enough to pack it up?

Inquiry:

What is the weight of the PowerFlamer propane 160 stove? Long legs included if that matters.

Do you know how long after cooking it takes to cool off enough to pack it up? We can probably calculate this from the material and mass of the main burner section and max temperature.

I’m wondering how portable this would be for camping.

Outdoorstirfry:

Weight of a long leg PowerFlamer stove is about 24lbs.   The stove surrounding material should remain cool during cooking.  The only thing needing to cool down is the cast iron burner top plate of ~1lbs.   For temperature you can assume max of 500C.  Please reply back your calculation result of time to cool.

You can unscrew the long legs off.  The stove results as a short leg version.  The short leg version and long legs pack nicely as portable.

Outdoorstirfry:

WE have not seen your reply with your theoretical calculation on time to cool for the burner yet.   We took the experiment route.  After cooking our pot stickers for dinner, we took the measurement.   Initially the burner is at 227.3C with flame still on with below picture.

Burner Beginning Temp

We collect data along 25 minutes until the burner temperature drops to about 50C.   Below is a plot.

Burner Cool Off Temp vs Time

The burner looks like having a time constant about 16 minutes.   Below is a picture when we stop the measurement.

Burner End Temp

It looks like you can pack the stove 30 minutes after cooking.  Let us know if there is any question.

Wok questions

Inquiry:

Hello, I was just curious but what is the maximum size wok that you would recommend using with the Powerflamer Propane 160? I have a 14 inch flat bottom for indoor use and recently put in an order for a 14 inch round bottom wok. However, I was thinking about going bigger since this has the power to accommodate a 16 inch wok for example. That being said, I was thinking about staying to the 14 inch regardless since a 16 inch is quite unwieldy.

Also, I forgot to write in the previous communication but does it matter what type of wok is used (e.g. pow vs the one linked below)? I purchased the pow wok but am also considering purchasing the one below at a later date. However, I am not sure if that would work well with the Powerflamer.

https://www.newquistforge.com/products/two-ear-handle-round-bottomed-wok

Outdoorstirfry:

About size of wok, the PowerFlamer stove can handle >20” wok as its flame surround bottom of the wok.  In terms of handling weight, smaller size wok is preferred, especially if you plan to toss.  In terms of serving size, of course bigger wok can accommodate more people.   We personally use 14” wok.

The stove wind guard has one side (about ¼” perimeter) with high wall which blocks flame.  This is where the wok handle should be placed before hand touches.   1 ear of a two-ear wok will be exposed to flame.   People hand can be burnt if accidentally touches the hot ear (sometime people’s mind travels miles away from task in front of their face).   We would prefer your so-called pow wok with only one long handle.

Let us know if there is any further question.

Electronic ignition stays on as pilot flame?

Inquiry:

Question about the pilot light… on your website it says that the electronic ignition does NOT have a pilot light that can stay on. However, in Kenji’s video I see that he has the electronic ignition, and his pilot stays on during cooking. Which is the correct answer? Thank you!

Outdoorstirfry:

The concern is when the electronic ignition flame stays on, it continues to heat up the ignition tip which carries the heat through the white plastic part and the ignition black wire.   Potential result is that the continuing ignition flame will melt the white plastic tip and the black insulation around the ignition wire.   Temperature on any plastic or rubber part will shorten its life for sure.

Our PowerFlamer propane 160 integrated electronic ignition stove solves this problem by not allowing the electronic ignition to stay on.

Inquiry:

So if I get the IEI version, can I have electronic ignition and have the pilot light stay on? And also, what are the other advantages of the IEI system?

Outdoorstirfry:

The IEI version does not have any pilot flame and the integration makes it impossible for the ignition flame to stay on by mistake.   For comparison between EI and IEI versions, please see https://outdoorstirfry.com/?s=difference+IEI+and+EI.

Long leg to short leg conversion?

Inquiry:

hi there, one last question before i order, if I buy the long leg version, can it be converted to short leg version easily?

Outdoorstirfry:

yes, the long legs and their adaptors can be unscrewed from the short legs.  The stove becomes a short leg version.
