The small ignition pipe does not give enough gas for reliable ignition if the knob is turned too quickly.  Usually we recommend to turn the knob to a position right before clicking sound and hold there for 2~3 seconds before clicking sound to accumulate enough gas for easier ignition.   At some time, for example during wet weather, the ignition might be too stubborn to ignite.  A manual BBQ long arm igniter would be handy to manually ignite the main burner.
