I made Thai garlic beef tonight.

Name:

Jason, KS((PF13L130EI+Wok+Spatula+Lid)
Feedback:

I made Thai garlic beef tonight (fish sauce, garlic, beef, thai chili, cilantro; I put Thai basil in the second batch).  I got wok hei, I think (caught flame a few times).  Truly excellent.  Cooked in probably 40 seconds the wok was so hot.  Thank you very much again.  I think my mother is coming over tomorrow; I think she will want to buy one of these stoves (she is the one who told me about your site, actually).  She is a big fan of Thai food.  🙂

Our Answer (if any): Wok hei can be an unique taste from your dishes because people seldom can get it from restaurants.

This is our second PowerFlamer stove.

Name:

Ron, Idaho (PF9L130 stove in 2005 and PF13L130 in 2009)
Feedback:

(Accompany with the order) This is our second PowerFlamer stove (our 9″ PF stove has lasted almost 4 years) and we use it several times a week.  Your products are well appreciated, especially by us stir-frying Asians.  I wish you well in your business and I hope you continue to prosper.

(Web site feedback) We ordered our second stove PF13L130. Our first PF9L130 has given us so much enjoyment over the past 4 years. It has survived hot summers and snowy winters. Almost daily stirfries. Not only have we become proficient at stir fry techniques, but our family has benefited greatly from eating more healthier meals. And our house has remained clean and smoke free. THANK YOU for offering such an excellent product.

Our Answer (if any): Thank you for your good words and sharing with us your experience about our PowerFlamer stove.  Can you share with us which part fails functioning on your PF9 stove?
Feedback: The center burner has a split where the holes are for the gas to escape.  The split allows the propane to shoot downward and to the side making the stove ineffective (and a bit dangerous — the flames come out below the wind guard).  Other than the defective burner, the wind guard and legs are fine.  Do you sell just the burner?  Thanks for your service.

The propane connector fits a standard UK propane tank.

Name:

James, United Kingdom(PF15CL130EI)
Feedback:
The propane connector fits a standard UK propane tank.  One part of the connector assembly is not required, however, and must be unscrewed first.  I assume this redundant part is an adapter required for tanks in the USA.  I use a 20kg tank supplied by FloGas.
I have not had any difficulty setting up and using the burner.  I had it functioning well shortly after taking delivery and have used it many times since.
Many thanks to you for your excellent product.
Our Answer (if any): Your ordered a PF15CL130EI configurable stove.  The stove was shipped with a connector installed for connecting to a 1lb throw away propane bottle (like the camping bottle as in this picture ).  You are right, unscrewing it will expose the connector which you use for a 20lbs propane tank.

How much is the custom and duty to UK?

Name:

Jacob, United Kingdom(4 PF9L130)
Our Question:

How much is the custom and duty to UK?  Do you need to change the propane connector at a local store?  Does the original tank connector work with your propane tank?

Feedback:

As you know the stoves were for my wedding which went really well and the chefs really admires your stoves. Since then I have been on honeymoon and have only just returned. To answer your questions, I cannot remember exactly the cost of the duty but from memory it was about £30 ($45). This is for the four stoves I bought which were in one parcel. I am not sure if you would need to pay the same for just one stove or a quarter the amount. I suspect it should be worked out on the value of the package and therefore should be a quarter. I did have a problem with the valve connector as it would not fit UK propane cylinders. I found a company called gaslow who managed to provide me with an adaptor which also had the benefit of including a gauge for indicating the gas left in the bottle. This cost about £25 ($38) per stove. You can find a link to their website: http://www.gaslow.co.uk

I have now set up my powerflamer and with a little bit of hard work and fighting with my gas tank its now firing up.

I have now set up my powerflamer and with a little bit of hard work and fighting with my gas tank its now firing up. I will give it a virgin stir fry tonight and and my experience with your stove seems positive as a first impression. Even my neighbor who got a normal 15k btu indoor gas stove was jealous of my wok stove.

it turns out that i am a bit sensitive with high amounts of msg. I also spoke to other people who experience headaches, small abdominal pains and sometimes pain in their veins from high amounts of MSG. There has been some arguments among asian cefs if this is necessary or not. But at least I think fresh ingredients and good groceries has the full potential of avoiding msg.

For some reason i figured out that this enhancer is particularly common to use in so called “american chinese food”. I’m curious to learn more about authentic chinese food rather than the overly saucy american/westernized chinese food. Do you know any books that contains more authentic stuff? I have read some stuff from Barbara Tropp, Martin Yan and a old chef named Deh Ta Hsiung.

I think there is one restaurant in my city owned by a old couple from Beijing who own a szechuan restaurant. But they are extremely “secret” with their cooking styles hehe.

Our Answer (if any): Thanks for the good words.  Back 20~30 years ago people in China used MSG.  Now they do not use them any more or as often. I agree with you, good taste can be developed by natural material.  We are not aware of any book for authentic Chinese cooking. However we know there are ways to figure it out. The first has to know Chinese as a language. The second but still good approach would be to search video on the internet done by real people, not by restaurant.

I’ve cooked in it 3 times, and it works wonderfully.

Name:

Julie, AZ (EF13SN50WG + 3/8 Quick Connect)
Feedback:

I’ve cooked in it 3 times, and it works wonderfully. I even cooked right before a storm, and the wind guard was able to protect the flame. It feels very natural to be cooking outside on a wok. Quick questions:

I have been igniting the flame with a hand-held BBQ lighter because the stove would not light up on its own, but I could hear the gas flowing. Is this normal?

Where can I buy that rubber gas hose, in case I need to replace it in the future?

For increased safety, I have been closing the gas valve after I turn off the stove. Do you do this too?

Our Answer (if any):

Thanks for liking the stove.  So the quick connector on your pipe must be 3/8″.

 1.  The igniter coming along with the stove is not very good.  Using a BBQ igniter is the way around the problem.  Once you turn and release the knob, the gas should come through the main pipes but not the pilot pipe.  So you should be fine.

 2.  The rubber hose is 3/8″.  We do not have it as a separate item for sale.  So far we have not heard from any single customer about buying a replacement rubber hose.  But in case you need one, we have to look around.  Local hardware store might have hose suitable for propane which should also works for natural gas.

 3.  Closing the gas valve on the main gas pipe is what we recommend after cooking.

Feedback:

When I am cooking, I pretend that I’m a hardworking cook on the streets of Taiwan. Cooking outside with loud noises and high heat, with people walking by.  I know… I am very bored, but I love the stove!
